Alvor really does have it all. Magnificent sandy beaches, a natural lagoon, harbour promenade, leisure centre and indoor swimming pool. The traditional fishing heritage is still alive and well and there is a huge and varied selection of restaurants, cafes and bars.
The pace of the town is easy going with plenty of good walking along the river estuary, promenade and among the small cobbled streets.
Restaurants, satisfying every taste from traditional to modern, are everywhere and the choice is truly fantastic. Tempting grills serving the daily catch are a feature at the harbour.
There is a great selection of small shops offering both local and wide ranging goods. The town also has a Post Office, pharmacies, a great local market, banks and bureaux de change.
The beaches are renowned for Blue Flag Status and their wide golden sands. The rocks at the eastern end are typical Algarvian landscape and offer welcome shade from the high summer sun. The breakwater at the western end is a great spot for looking back towards the town nestling above its harbour.
There are plenty of water sports on offer along with sailing trips and excursions and the town boasts a family friendly atmosphere all year round.
