PRAIA do VAU

 

Praia do Vau has a special charm all of it’s own and it’s beaches are the main attraction. The waters are world renowned for their health giving properties, being rich in potassium. The surrounding cliffs have pockets of volcanic rock which is ground to a paste with the sea-water by the locals. The mud paste is used as a home-made aid for arthritic pain and skin ailments.

 

Golden sands surrounded by impressive cliffs shelter the bay and, although it is small, it has a surprisingly good selection of local restaurants and beach bars offering both light meals and extensive dinner choices.

 

 

 

There is plenty of free parking in front of the main beach and again further along at the smaller one. The sands are easily accessible and the ocean is invigorating at this delightful spot. At certain times with the tides permitting the energetic can walk all the way to the lighthouse at the end of Praia da Rocha. There are cliff top walks in both directions and the views are amazing.
For those wanting to relax in a lovely sheltered spot with all amenities within a couple of minutes stroll then Praia do Vau is the ideal destination.
